To understand the story of Chimes Consulting you really need to go back to 1996, London, England. The Chimes brothers were running three practices in different parts of London employing eight associate doctors and fifteen Front Desk and business staff. Sure, they were doing okay but it was a struggle and they were not hitting the heights of success they felt they should be.
“We were working so hard, all day, every day, for what seemed like little reward. It was really tough in those days,” says Bryn Chimes. “We were racing between practices ‘putting out fires' everywhere. We knew that there had to be a better way, so we went out and found it.”
They enrolled on a management program run by an American doctor - Chuck Gibson, a man they hold in high esteem. “This was the man, along with his partner Jay Morgan, who turned everything around for us,” says Terry Chimes. “It took two years because it took us a year to realise that nothing was going to change until we changed ourselves.”
After one particular seminar they left and made a pact - to do absolutely everything that was in that management program. But that wasn't all they did - they set about writing their own operations manuals, systems guides, marketing handbooks, procedure templates, communication scripts, doctor and staff training manuals and even their own practice management computer software, now called the Chimes CMS. The whole operation could now be taught as one big system - a turn-key for success.
Never before was there a clearer ‘How to . . .' guide on how to run a practice. They put it all into operation in their own practice . . . but did it work?
“The truth is always in the numbers,” says Terry Chimes, “The numbers will tell you everything you need to know.” The practice went from a turnover of $690,000 the previous year to an astonishing $2.6 million the year after. It was an emphatic answer to the question of, ‘Did it work?'
The practice where Terry was based hit one thousand visits per week. “The amazing thing was that I had more time on my hands than ever before. The patients were happier and the figures for referrals went through the roof!” says Terry.
Just as news travelled fast amongst patients, so it did through the profession. More and more doctors were asking for help and advice on how to replicate that success. “We soon realised that we could help many more people by helping other doctors to see more patients,” says John Chimes. “We were finding ourselves on the phone everyday coaching someone and we were glad to be of help.”
It soon became clear that there was a huge need for a full time consultancy and so Chimes Consulting was born. In the last five years the consultancy has helped doctors from all over Europe achieve the success they really deserve. Chimes Consulting quickly became the largest chiropractic management consultancy in Europe.
“So many Doctors who call us for the first time are working so hard but it doesn't have to be that way, with a few changes in the right places the change can be amazing,” says Bryn Chimes. “I'll never forget what it was like in the old days before we changed. Terry makes at least five trips per year to the USA to meet with some of the most successful doctors in the world. “There is always something new to learn,” says Terry. “It's important to mix with the best in your field. If you just rest on your laurels you can soon get left behind.”

Terry Chimes
Terry Chimes started out as a musician. He was a founder member of The Clash, later playing with Billy Idol, Black Sabbath and many others. In 2003 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
After 15 years he left the music business to pursue a career in alternative medicine. He became a doctor of chiropractic and also an acupuncturist.
